According to CPD, 59 people were killed across Chicago in July, nearly 12% lower than last year. The number of people shot in July compared to last year fell from 441 to 352.
Ald. Byron Sigcho-Lopez (25th) called the fatal shooting “incredibly tragic on multiple levels and the type of homicide we can do more to prevent.”
The man, 33, was sitting in a vehicle about 9:20 a.m. in the 300 block of North Kilbourn Avenue when an SUV approached and at least one person inside opened fire, Chicago police said.
A 2-year-old boy, his parents and another man were shot on the street Wednesday by multiple assailants. The mother died at a hospital. Police recovered a vehicle used by the shooters and say the attack was targeted.
Briana Burden, 20, died, and six other people were rescued after a boat hit a breakwall early Friday near the “Playpen” during a sharp burst of wind and high waves.
The Rev. Robin Hood, surrounded by family and community activists, called for justice: “We can’t let killers sleep in our houses and walk among us, because we’re all in jeopardy.”
‘The idea of shooting at an ambulance is something I thought I’d never see,’ a witness to the shooting in a residential area told the Sun-Times. The suspect, Ricardo Vazquez, was scheduled to appear in court later Friday.
